Building the capacity of SME in the construction sector to assess and communicate life-cycle environmental performance
Context
The European Commission's regulatory framework (e.g., European Green Deal, CPR – Construction Products Regulation, ESPR – Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, EPDB – Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) requires the assessment and communication of environmental performance from a life cycle perspective. Therefore, raising awareness of SMEs in the construction sector of the risks of unpreparedness to respond to environmental requirements is crucial, due to potential losses of market share. In addition, strengthening SMEs' competitiveness and ability to respond to challenges related to the Green Transition is key.
Main objectives
The main objective of BuildingLCAcapacity is to transfer the vast technical and scientific knowledge of Itecons in the field of life cycle environmental assessment of construction products through the development of a digital platform. This platform will bring together systematised information and tools aimed at responding to common challenges of the construction sector, enabling SMEs to respond to the new legislation and regulations that require the assessment and communication of the life cycle environmental performance of construction products. In addition, the project will demonstrate how knowledge of environmental performance can foster decarbonisation and circularity in the sector.
Activities
The BuildingLCAcapacity project is structured around five main activities:
· A1. Systematisation of information, diagnosis and content preparation
· A2. Development and implementation of the BuildingLCAcapacity platform
· A3. Design of decision support and demonstration tools
· A4. Promotion and dissemination of project activities and results
· A5. Project management and coordination
