The project aims to design and develop 4 complementary subsystems of the interior of a railway car, designed to improve its manufacturing, integration, and passenger comfort, as well as reducing the operation costs, in order to increase the activity and competitiveness of railway equipment.

SCOPE

The project brings together several technological advances based on a concept of modular, flexible and standardised construction, with the integration of electronic systems and exploration of technologies such as Resin Transfer Moulding or Machine Learning.

An intelligent approach to structural, comfort and safety features is foreseen (reduction of the weight of composite components, use of recycled materials and study of different assembly strategies), as well as the development of innovative features (active information and dynamic passenger signage, safety warnings, autonomously managed ambient lighting, local heating) that will add greater value to railway interiors.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

  • Modularity and integration between subsystems;
  • Guarantee construction flexibility;
  • Integrate new features into each subsystem;
  • Guarantee the acoustic/thermal/visual comfort inside the railway car, namely, intervening in the design of the HVAC ducts and in the design of the ceiling panels;
  • Standardisation (Design for Manufacturing);
  • Customisation (Design For Customisation);
  • Panel solutions with less weight when compared with current references in the market (e.g. NTV Alstom);
  • Guarantee the energetic efficiency of the HVAC systems;
  • Create qualifications and boost companies and national R&D groups in the railway sector.
