EfS 2015
Introduction

Along with climate change, the threat of energy scarcity is recognized as one of the major challenges of the 21st century. Addressing this problem requires not only the supply of clean, reliable and inexpensive energy sources but also the implementation of measures to increase efficiency at all stages: generation, transformation, distribution and final consumption of energy, resulting in a multidisciplinary issue.

The goal of the EfS 2015 Conference is to contribute to debating this issue by bringing together researchers and students from different scientific fields, along with other key agents in this area, allowing the exchange of knowledge, new ideas and past experiences in this pressing matter. The Conference will act as a discussion forum, promoting the identification of new advances, trends and opportunities for collaboration and it is open to all persons interested in the applied research and technical development in the fields of Energy and Sustainability, namely in the study, design, operation, and regulation of systems that generate, transport or use energy. The theme for the conference is Sustainable cities: Designing for People and the Planet.

This is the second edition of the Energy for Sustainability Multidisciplinary Conference and it is being organized by ITeCons, the Institute for Research and Technological Development in Construction Sciences, for the Energy for Sustainability Initiative of the University of Coimbra.

The Energy for Sustainability Initiative (EfS) gathers faculty and researchers from R&D Units of the University of Coimbra. It manages advanced educational programmes and carries out activities of an interdisciplinary nature focusing on urban systems, industrial production and energy (conventional or based on renewable sources) for buildings and transport which have led to interaction between the industry and society in general.

We look forward to welcoming you to Coimbra on the 14th May 2015.
